A Visual pun is a pun or a word play
created to suggest two or more meanings that have multiple meanings of words
that have a humorous impact involving one or more images rather than language
or speech. By using a visual pun it gives more meaning within the expression. Visual puns are typically used by most designers in the graphic art and design industry. This is one of many examples of a visual pun, a huge sign that says,
"Size doesn't matter." This is seen as hypocritical and funny because
with using a billboard, size does matter because the bigger it is the better,
allowing you to see what is being advertised. This could also be perceived as
how Americans always seem to have the need for bigger and better things.
To show a better understanding in a
visual pun, here are more examples below.
Example 1: A fish with a cat head represents a
catfish.
Example 2: A plant with eggs instead of blossoms represents egg plant.
Example 3: A Band-Aid with alligator scales
represents Gator-Aid.
