Decorative Logotypes
Decorative logotypes are stylized and
abstracted ornamental motifs that have been significant to designers since the
nineteenth century. When creating a logo, the artist's main objective is to
keep the logo as simple as possible while also designing it to catch your eye
and remain memorable. If the artist fulfills both objectives, that logo has the
potential to become a social icon and recognizable by simply seeing the emblem
for example Nike or McDonalds.
The Coca-Cola logo was conceived in
1885 and designed by Frank Mason Robinson in Spencerian script which is a
formal penmanship style. This was popular in Victorian decorative commercial
art and popular culture. Similar logos include General Electric and Ford’s logo
which was also in Spencerian.
These are
the many intricate logos placed on the Blue Goose Canadian based organic &
natural food brand's packages. They contain nature scenery molded into the
animal on the logo. Logos like these are intricate because it helps people
remember how unique it was from other logos. The illustrator is Ben Kwok.
This is an avatar of what should be the old apple logo. It was
cropped for some reason by Anton Kudin from dribble.com. This post’s colors
really caught my attention. The use of the bright colors makes it stand out
from all of the other logos. It is also interesting to me because it’s not just
any regular apple, it’s an apple that has a bite taken out of it. This shows a
lot of creativity.
These logos are quite an interesting example of decorative
logotypes. These logos were designed by a woman named Gisela Martinez, and the
name of the portfolio is "Logo +Identity" The company name is
displayed underneath the graphic, using an interesting and eye catching font.
However, the eye is first drawn to the graphic. The graphic is a simplified
mandala, a design the promotes peace and enlightenment. The complany that this
logo was designed for is an interior design firm, and the purpose for the madala
was to accentuate that they strive for peace and clean flow in a home. A
variety of mandalas and color schemes are used, each unique yet pleasing, eye
catching, and memorable both in their simplicity and simultaneous complexity. By Gisela Martinez-http://www.coroflot.com/gisemartinez/Logo-Identity#a=1&p=2&k=logo
This
logo both represents the Assassin Insignia and The Masquerade. The Assassin
Insignia represents the same logo of the Assassin's Creed video game however,
it is a real symbol that comes from the Renaissance in Italy. It also has some
resemblance to the symbol of the Freemason. The mask in the background also
represents The Masquerade. Masquerades are like halloween parties, which are
called "Masquerade ball", because people where their costumes and
creative masks that would symbolize either an animal or a spirit or anything else.
Masquerade balls have been associated with the tradition of the Venetian
Carnival during the Renaissance.
