GuMMED : Abstract Graphs

Abstract graphs are mental diagrams creating a landscape inside our head. This piece of art by creativesam shows us how its done. Some graphs are so incredible to look at that they can create their own reality.
This is an abstract representation of a map of the Internet. This is an image of a three dimensional globe, logging traffic across the internet. made by: Dima Tsapko found on www.behance.net user: www.behance.net/flashback62
This is an abstract graph of the sun By Xylute from deviantart
This picture that shows the density of electric vehicle charging stations used throughout the United Staes. This graph is abstract because of the use of colors and different shades of the color used to represent it, while still getting the point across.

Impact: Dynamic Diagonals

Next

Dynamic Diagonals is the use of diagonal lines which add a dynamic element of perceived energy and motion through photographs. these lines are effective because the viewers eye will follow them through the photograph. The eye moves through the photograph based on how we read which is from left to right.

**If one would create a photograph that would be published in a country where written words were read in another direction, the direction of Dynamic Diagonals should be taken into consideration**

Photographs with diagonals that begin from the top left corners and end at the bottom right
give a sense of speed, movement and direction.

In this photograph, the alignment with the buildings in the top left draws the viewers eyes towards
the big building in the center. the flag poles also draw attention to the big building because of its
vanishing point.

sankofa perfect rectangles

Perfect Rectangles

Thats a shape that has 2 sides that are short and 2 long sides that are equal in length

This Iis a example of a perfect rectangle. The top and bottom sides are equal to each other. The sides are as well.  If they where not this wouldnt be a perfect rectangle.  It would be a polygon.

This is a example of a none perfect rectangle.  All for sides are equal.  That makes it a square because a rectangle has long and short sides.  They are similar because they both have 4 right angles that are 90 degrees and a area of 360

Shapes can be put together to make a perfect rectangle.  In the picture it shows 2 shapes being combined to make a rectangle.  Pushing them together you see that the top and bottom are equal and the left is now equal to the right.

Can/Am: Stencil types

Stencil Types: are different forms of stencil through images and font size. (Stencil: a sheet of material (metal, plastic, cardboard, waxed paper, silk, etc.) that has been perforated with a pattern (printing or a design); ink or paint can pass through the perforations to create the printed pattern on the surface below)

Abstract Graphs

Abstract is defined as an existing in thought or as an idea but not having a physical or concrete existence; and graphics is defined as the products of the graphic arts, esp. commercial design or illustration.this picture shows the basic graph and different shapes being used to form multiple designs. seeing how the person used almost all the same shapes and having each part come out different shows how creative the artist is.

this picture is more high tech but still uses the graph. this picture shows how creative you can be with using a graph on the computer. also it could make your creation come out more and have more of a 3D effect.

this picture picture deals with different shades of dark sold colors. putting a certain color in a certain spot brings out the picture more and makes it more different  to regular pictures.

this picture has a dark feel to it. you could still see what the artist is trying to express even thought not that much colors are being used in this.

Comic Lettering - Mack

Comic Lettering
By Mack
Comic lettering is a type of lettering that designers use to catch the readers eye, so they may use bright and vibrant colors, abnormal types of font that we don't usually use and the word itself may be twisted or bent just so it will catch the readers eye. This technique is mostly seen in comic books or newspaper comics and is mostly used with noises or a verbal expression.

"Comic Book SFX Lettering Samples" by JessHavok

The images above are all perfect examples of the comic lettering because each of the words have bright and vibrant colors, have some sort of different type of font and positioned in ways we are not used to seeing.

Boom!
"Boom!" By Mathew Lucas

This image and the one below were both made by the same artist, with the image above the creator made it look like there was some type of explosion happening inside the word Boom making the text contorted and thus making it appealing to the reader
And with the image below, the creator made it seem that the word "Shot" has actually been shot right through the letter "O" also making it appealing to the reader.

This picture has more of a comic book image to it and just by looking at it, the detail in the picture does make it look like the letter B is some kind of superhero. With its bright and bold color with block like type font makes it the perfect example of comic lettering.

Parody

Parody
Parody takes well known art sculptures music etc. and gives it a twist sometimes turning it into a pun. Parodies are used to trigger the attention and recognition among the audience. However it only works if the audience knows the original piece of work. Sometimes people take and create a parody just for fun to make an audience laugh. Other parodies are used in instances of elections to bash an opponent and make the people vote for you rather than your opponent.

Dynamic Diagonals

During the 1930's was the tipping point for history in the world of graphic design. The Russian avant-grade who embraced the revolution were facing persecution under Stalin's regime. Later when Gustav Klutis was campaigning he used a photo college of hands together that was in an 45 degree angle against the red background. The diagonals were a constructivists trademark and he was familiar with this composition. After that happened it helped paved a way to modernism.

Frame by Frame-Team 518,

Frame by frame is defined by “100 Ideas That Changed Graphic Design,” as a sequential visual narrative. From Egyptian hieroglyphics to the Bayeux Tapestry in the Eleventh Century. Or a “wordless sequence to express a concept.”
This image by Mehdi Alibeygi on Behance.net portrays a type of frame by frame. It is a lot like a comic strip. This series of frame by frame images shows a man skydiving and pulling his chute. You can see the plane getting smaller and smaller as he is falling, and when he pulls his chute, its empty. It doesn’t necessarily need a joke, but in this case the joke comes at the end where it shows, most likely his wife, hanging up his parachute to dry.

This work was posted on deviantart.com by Panistheman.
This Frame by Frame piece is always in a loop, it will always play over and over. this frame by frame work is a comic strip portraying may be a bully fighting the victim. but the victim in turn goes ahead in the comic to steal himself to help fight, forcing the strip to play over and over.

This frame by frame tells the story of a guy who wakes up and then decides to snooze for a few minutes. He doesn’t set his alarm and eventually oversleeps. I’ve done this countless times my self as I am also sure that this has happened to all of us at some point in our life!

The Provocative Gesture - Mack

The Provocative Gesture

By: Mack

The Provocative Gesture is one that expresses an emotion such as anger or strength using different poses. These were used in eras such as in World War II for propaganda posters especially to show that women were strong enough to work in factories. This was an encouragement to women to show how powerful they were in getting their points across. Provocative gestures were also used to promote gay marriages in the United States as well. To provoke an audience is to give them a kind of stimulus or incite to do something hence why the term provocative gesture came to be because it sends a stimulus to the audience it was appealing to through these such posters
.

The whole purpose of a propaganda poster was to try to in courage people to fight for their country, and with a gesture like this it almost seems that the poster is only getting the message straight to yourself.

Night Spectaculars

NIGHT SPECTACULARS

This is a picture of the city street lights of Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong their are many bright lights fluttering the streets.
Their mostly billboards and store fronts that light up to draw attraction
to the store.
The entire street of chinas city looks like a light spectacular, it brings
day time to night.

The municipal house is one of the most spectacular buildings in prague.
It has a display of lights reflecting off the walls of the building
giving the illusion that makes it seem like the whole building is glowing
This is a very popular night spectacular because this building has held
concerts and exhibitions for tourist and visitors.

This is a picture of the 2011 project for sony pictures "Arthur Christmas" on Regent st. in the UK.
The sign hanging over the street lights up with many small christmas colors in different patterns to form
christmas trees and the characters and title of "Arthur Christmas".
The walls also contribute to the street display because of the purple lights reflecting off the walls of the buildings along side the poster light. Also in the background their are lines of blue lights forming stars further down the street. This Night Spectacular caught a lot of attention with the display of colors.

This is one of the seven buildings in Adelaide that has been lit up for the Adelaide festival in South Australia. At Adelaide University they have seven buildings that light up through different projections. This Building projects 5 different light patterns. The Night Spectacular on their campus is used for part of their schools events, studies, and history.

Shadow Play - Team GuMM'D

Team GuMM'D

Shadow Play

Shadow Play is images from the 2 dimensional plane entering in the third dimension in the manner of shadows. Its all done by photography and controlling light and shadows by lenses, mirrors, and filters. Take this picture for example. -by Holunder from deviant art.

Shadow play is the use of shadows to create a filled outline of three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional plane. This image is shadow play that has been possibly drawn, but may just be a picture drawn onto the shadow. It even could be just the shadow of a paper cutout of the hand.

This example of shadow play doesn't reflect exactly what its supposed to but this is done on purpose. The drawing shows creative thought because of its diverse characteristics.

This is one of a series, the series is called "Nursery crimes". This is an incredible display of two dimensional objects, giving illusion to three dimensional shape of each object. Though both figures in the frame are arranged in three dimensional space, they are still two dimensional. The shadows created by each, however, give the illusion that both are three dimensional objects.

Another picture symbolizing shadowplay, shadows made by hands to create images, usually animals.

Team 518; Forced Obselescence

Forced Obsolescence Team 518

Forced Obsolescence is another way of saying “style engineering.” Where the style or usefulness of objects change overtime to fit into ever changing lifestyles. The marketers and Investors saw that if something looks more futuristic, it could sell better and grab peoples attention more.

This image posted on http://www.deviantart.com/ by “jenleighphotography,” shows how floppy discs are obsolete. In this case the floppy disk is an example on forced obsolescence because of the CD, Flash Drive, and now phones even can store data for you if you need to move a large file around. Here the author takes the floppy drive and makes a piece of art out of it thanks to its bright colours. Now the flash drive is becoming smaller, and getting different designs to have people buy the ones that look cooler.

Old TV by Marcio Bonfim Dribble.com
This Tv has the antenna, turning knobs and the panel glass and the cathode ray tube, features that do not exist in modern televisions. The old-fashioned tv makes a nice look back to what it once was, it makes you think on how far we are now from the antenna and knobs.

This work was posted on Behance.net by David Ellingsen.
This piece shows and obsolete technology, cassette tape, which now have been replaced by MP3 players and CDs. It looks like there is a floppy disk that is in the back. All together, being  obsolete. Using these obsolete technologies makes a nice work.

Obtained from Diana Coohill on Behance

This posting was displayed to the students of Kent State University in Ohio. Obviously, due to the fact that everyone now has a cellphone, the use of landline telephones in student housing buildings has become obsolete. Landlines are not the only communication device that has become obsolete; I have not seen a phonebooth in ages!
