Team 518 Avant Garde 'zines

Avant-Garde 'zines
Avant-Garde 'zines represent a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo, primarily in the cultural realm. The notion of the existence of the avant-garde is considered by some to be a hallmark of modernism, as distinct from postmodernism. To put it another way, being avant-garde involves exploring new artistic methods, or experimenting with new techniques, in order to produce better art.

This image was posted on deviantart by xyphid. This piece was the second part of a avant garde web page. It took many hours to make and it looks like it paid off. The piece just flows, caching a reader’s eye to even more detail.

Complicated Game, 1991, enamel, varnish, and gold leaf on carved wood construction, 14 x 12 x 12 in., private collection.
This seems to be a kind of game and a collectors edition for that matter.

This Avant Garde Image of two Alternative Press Magazine covers is taken from Coroflot.com and by Artist Brian Mulvey. It doesn’t follow the normal rules of a magazine. Font is different throughout and it isn’t exactly easy to read right from the start. Things are scattered all over the place and it takes more of your attention to really understand it vs. traditional headlines in large fonts along the sides of other magazine covers.

This image is way beyond the norm. The entropy of this image captured my attention at first sight. There is definitely a lot going on here, that can easily be misinterpreted. I’m not exactly sure how to dissect this image, but it sure looks like an uncanny chess match!
