Monumental images has always been a way for perpetuating myths and building heroes, that people look up for the to. Most people understood the larger-than-life scale that was being shown in monumental images. Rulers were always human in reality, but they can tower high above multitudes.  For example Benito Mussolini had a billboard with him sculpted in the building.
