The clenched fist is a symbol of power, authority, or anger.


The left has been claimed the clenched fist as their property. The fist show a symbol of solidarity and defiance. In the 1920s the fist was used by the Communists and the straight-arm salute by the Nazis. The Nazis used this "iron fist"to show the strength of the leader which they took from the 1871 Paris Communards.



In 1968, graphic artists from the New Left with a new image. It was a good example of rebellion. The image was adapted from a poster he had done previously for "Stop the Draft" in 1967. The fist was used and raised in at all major rallies and rebellions, such as antiwar, women's, and other political activities throughout the world.
