Rays- By Pandora

Rays are one of the most ancient iconic symbols. They are the attributes of gods and heros and were shown radiating around the head of Apollo, or Buddha, or Jesus. Rays were known as a rare optical phenomenon known as an aura, which creates a dazzling cicular rainbow around the person, or object.

Japan, "the Land of the Rising Sun," was the first use of rays in a non-religous view. When they were defeated in World War II they lost the rays and their flag became what it is today.

Mickey gained his rays for his 80th anniversary.

Today rays are used for the same reason, to give the object they are surrounding a godly appeal. Popular media uses it all the time and so does marketing campaigns. These campaigns can be for anything from accenting a price to expressing the idea of "squeaky-clean" on a package of detergent.
