A man named John Heartfield was known for his photomontage art when creating his pieces dealing with anti-Nazi graphic commentaries.
Photomontage was developed in 1917 and was the manipulation of two or more different photographs, combining negatives and positives, to form a convincing new image.
Viktor Koen's photomontage is more of the twenty-first-century surrealism. His images are at once apocalypic and utopian. Some photomontage like this below is used currently for things such as advertising or even maybe on a CD cover.
