Russian painter Kasimir Malevich is the founder of the art movement Suprematism, and was inspired by Cuban artist and sculptors. Malevich thought that the black square was the perfect icon and used it in much of his work. He felt that he could display different impressions through the interaction of squares, triangles, and circles. Malevich passion for the black square influenced constructivists, the De Stijl neoplasticists such as Zwart, and the Bauhaus minimalists. To this day artists and designers reference his work into their new modernized pieces becuase the black square has yet to go out of style.
