Music has gone through many changes throughout the years. From the styles to the way the audience act. Many changes have effect on the music we listen today. The most commonly used artistic story to create music is that you composers have to follow a certain layout of music depending on what genera of music is being played. David Byrne believes that there is a basic outline for each genera of music but that different aspects can be added once the basics have been set. Letting composers really shape a piece of music into their own creation. While not exactly following an exact format for music there are many differences between music for example African folk music and medieval European music. While both genera’s are spiritual African folk music is for more of a celebration mainly conducted in an open space for people to dance with complex beats and rhythms. While medieval European music slowly evolves melodies and eschew key changes which work beautifully and reinforce a worldly ambience. Changes are very prominent throughout music weather big or small. One change in classical music and opera versus is the audience. The original audience of classical music and opera versus would talk loudly, eat, and shout out during the performance. Audience now of classical music and Opera versus now a days are very quiet and attentive to the music. This help keep all the craziness out of the halls. Even with the audience change in some genera’s of music composers would have to accommodate the audience. For example with jazz music most of the audience would dance along so composers had to find a way to make the music smooth and louder. So during cord changes musicians would play over the changes so that the dancers could keep dancing. They also used instruments such as the banjo instead of the guitar so that the music can be heard over the dancing. They also used some of these methods in other genera’s of music such as country music, blues, Latin music, and rock and roll. With the changes that went on back in time it effected how music is created today. Composers are now able to use technology to digitally record over breaks to help the music to flow. With the changes that come with music also technology changes. With the change in technology it became easier for people to hear music. Recording music began in 1878 it greatly changed the nature of music. Instead of concert halls and clubs music could be heard from your home. Listening to the radio and in house phonographs became popular. With the new technology came criticism. For example crooning exploiting the new microphones. Since so many changes can be made a singer doesn’t even have to have a good singing voice in order to sound good. Even music has changed from what it used to be to now like hip hop. When hip hop first started people use to go to see the artist perform and be interactive with the artist now because of the ability to record the personal connection is no longer there. Now a day music sound better played in the car the live. With so much improvement in technology concerning music it has now came to the time of portable music. The acoustic quality of an Mp3 player is related to an R&B or slow jam song. You can listen to the details in a song unlike a concert hall where the sound might sound mush and hard to understand. Throughout life music has had a huge involvement with in our lives and have been through many changes though out the years.
